Sun Fire[tm] T2000 Server: Repair Procedures

This section provides tips (when available) for the most common repair procedures for the Sun Fire T2000. The repair procedures are provided in the following manual:

The following table provides tips associated with each component.

Component Tips
CPU
  • CPU Diagnosis Engine available as patch for installation on Sun Fire T2000 systems. (FAB 1000219.1).
Ethernet
  • Small number of Northstar Dual GBE -03 cards may fail on certain systems due to defective voltage mux. (FAB 1000525.1).
  • Northstar Dual GBE -02 cards do not support Solaris netboot on SPARC systems. (FAB 1000141.1).
Miscellaneous
  • Console behavior is inconsistent when a graphics device and keyboard are specified for console use. This occurs when the OpenBoot variables 'input-device' and 'output-device' are set to anything other than the default value of 'virtual-console'. (FAB 1018990.1).
Power Distribution Board (PDB)
  • An electronic copy of the chassis serial number is located in a CPROM at U20.

    Use the ALOM setcsn command to set the chassis serial number after replacing the PDB and powering on the system. The Sun Fire T2000 Server Service Manual (819-2548) describes the required service commands.

System Controller Board
  • Some early Sun Fire T2000 Servers were shipped without the ability to Hot Swap Power Supply 0 (PS0). (FCO A0264-1).
  • A limited number of Sun Fire T2000 and SPARC Enterprise T2000 servers may experience a shutdown with SC Alert: "Chassis cover removed". (FAB 1020218.1).
