Sun StorEdge[tm] 3900/6900: Repair Procedures

The Sun StorEdge 3900 and 6900 contain Sun StorEdge T3+ arrays in their cabinets. The repair procedures for the 3900/6900 are provided in the following manual:

  • Seagate Cheetah 7 146GB FC-AL and 73 GB FC-AL disk drives may experience higher than expected failure rates due to spindle motor failure (FCO A0256-1).
  • Seagate Cheetah 7 FC-AL and SCSI disk drives with serial numbers below 60000 are experiencing a higher than expected failure rate due to a spindle motor issue (FCO A0239-1).
  • Specific serial numbers of 36GB and 73GB Allegro 7 drives may experience 0bx47 SCSI Parity Errors. (FCO A0231-2).

  • Early versions of StorADE health monitoring software may misrepresent disk errors from Sun StorEdge 3910/3960 and 6910/6960 Arrays and Sun StorEdge 6320 Systems (FAB 1001189.1).
  • Service Processor (SP) software is no longer provided with the SP FRU, additional steps are required when replacing the SP (FIN I1006-1).

  • StorEdge Network FC Switch-8 and StorEdge Network FC Switch-16 products installed in a Storage Area Network (SAN) configuration must have the proper level of firmware installed for proper operation (FIN I0700-1).
  • Sun Professional Services is selling Brocade Silkworm Switches containing GBIC's which have no Sun label or part number. This FIN will provide guidance for replacing these non-Sun GBIC's in the case of failure (FIN I0704-1).
  • Current switch replacement procedures for the 39x0 & 69x0 are incorrect (FIN I0916-1).
