Issue Description:
There is the potential to damage the ALOM/RMC connector on the Motherboard
of Sun Fire V440 and Netra 440 systems if the ALOM Card is removed in an
improper manner. If the ALOM/RMC Card is not removed with a vertical motion,
the ALOM connector on the Motherboard could be broken, making it impossible
to install the ALOM Card. This could cause the system to be inoperative.

If this issue occurs, physical inspection of the end of the ALOM connector
farthest from the chassis may show visible signs of cracking.

This issue occurs if a forward and backward (rocking) motion
is applied to the card, while it is still installed within the connector.
The ALOM/RMC card utilizes a key slot which is located behind the
board edge connector that is used as an alignment point when installing
the card. This cutout pinches the connector, causing the plastic housing
of the connector to break, and in severe cases the connector may separate.
This renders the card inoperative.

The root cause of the issue is insufficient margin between the connector
pins and the key that prevents insertion of the card into PCI slots.
There are no plans to rework the board to eliminate this cutout as there
are other traces buried in the FAB layers which would have to be moved.
Implementation:
---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Proactive)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---
Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned issue.

It is important to remove the ALOM/RMC in a straight up and down (vertical)
manner without rotating the card back and forth, eliminating any risk of
damaging the connector. No other steps are required to be taken.

Reference pages 97-100 in the Sun Fire V440 Server Parts Installation and
Removal Guide for complete details of removing the ALOM Card.

Note: Prior to removing the ALOM/RMC card, AC Power must be completely
removed from the system by unplugging the AC Power Cords. Standby
power flows to the card when the AC Power Cords are attached, even if
the system has been powered off.

If the connector is inspected and found to be the cause of the ALOM/RMC
card not operating correctly, then replacement of the Motherboard is
required.
Comments:
None.
