        Upgrade Guide

Issue Description:
After a CPU upgrade procedure is performed on Sun Fire V210/V240 and
Netra 240 servers, the Solaris "showfru" command is unable to display the
new System Board FRUID information. Instead, it will show the original
FRUID data.

A CPU upgrade kit was recently announced for the Sun Fire V210/V240 and
Netra 240 Servers. The CPU upgrade process writes the new configuration data
to the FE segment within the DYNAMIC section of the FRUID SEEPROM on the
System Board.

Because the CPU(s) and System Board is one FRU, the part number within the
SD segment (STATIC section) of FRUID SEEPROM on the System Board will not be
correct after an upgrade has been implemented.

The "showfru" command is not able to read the updated FRUID data. This new
data is only readable by the "prtfru" command using modified library
files which are available on the Upgrade CDROM.

The "showfru" command will be able to display the FE segment within the
DYNAMIC section of FRUID in the next release of Sun Advanced Lights Out
Management (ALOM) software. This version of ALOM (1.4) can be downloaded
from http://www.sun.com/software/download/sys_admin.html when it releases.
Downloads require that a user account be created.
Implementation:
---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Proactive)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---
Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned issue.

Use the Solaris "prtfru" command to display the updated FRUID information
following a Sun Fire V210/V240 or Netra 240 CPU upgrade procedure.

The "prtfru" command will only display the FE segment within the
DYNAMIC section of FRUID if LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to the Tools/lib directory
on the CDROM supplied as part of the CPU Upgrade kit. Use of the "prtfru"
command is detailed in the CPU Upgrade Guide 817-4146-10. The library
files are also available at URL:

http://edist.corp/edist-cgi/list_tools.cgi?division=Computer+Systems
(select "SunFire V210 V240 V250 and Netra 240 1.0")

They are available externally at URL:

http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/cpu_upgrade_utility.html

Note that as part of the Upgrade Procedure, it is important to also perform
the following:

 1. Attach the correct System Board part number label (A,B,C,D)
    to the System Board.
 2. Attach the correct bezel label (W,X,Y,Z) to the front of the server bezel.

These labels are supplied with the CPU Upgrade Kit. A detailed procedure can
be found on page 26 of the Upgrade Manual.
Comments:
None.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Sun Services will attempt to contact
all affected customers to recommend implementation of the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Sun Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Sun Services will implement the FIN as the
     need arises.
