Issue Description:
This FIN will provide the proper procedure to the Field for adding new
drives to StorEdge A1000/A3x00 arrays. This procedure will prevent
possible loss of access to the arrays by RAID Manager (RM) utilities
and will avoid the loss of newly added LUNs.

This issue can occur with the following releases:

       RAID Manager 6.22 and earlier

This issue can occur on the following platforms:

       StorEdge A1000
       StorEdge A3X00

When proper procedures are not followed for adding new disk drives to
one of the above arrays, several problems could arise. Increasing the
capacity for a StorEdge A1000 or A3X00 array by adding new disk drives
might result in RM 6.22 or earlier tools and utilities being unable to
access the array, with the only resolution being to reboot the host
system. In addition, any LUN that was created on the new drive(s)
might disappear without error messsage when the host system is rebooted
or the array is reset. In this case, the LUN might not be recoverable
and the data on that LUN might be lost.

In the case where the RM 6.22 or earlier tools and utilities fail to
work after a LUN creation attempt was made to the new drives, the only
recovery action would be to reboot the host system. In the case where
a LUN was created and suddenly disappears after a reboot or array
reset, recovery of the LUN would require an escalation of this issue to
CPRE. The LUN and recovery of the data might not be possible.

This problem arises due to improper documentation for the above
arrays. There never was a well-documented process for adding disks.
The Sun StorEdge A3x00/A3500FC Best Practices Guide now documents the
procedure in Section 2.3. Please follow the recommendation given there
or use the steps outlined below.
Implementation:
---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Proactive)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---
Corrective Action:
An Authorized Enterprise Services Field Representative may avoid the
above mentioned problems by following the recommendations as shown below.

Here is the proper procedure that must be utilized when adding new
drives to a StorEdge A1000 or A3X00 array. No problems should occur if
this process is followed. However, if the procedure was not followed
when disk drives were added, the recommendation is to reboot the host in
order to recover.

Please adhere to the following procedures in order to add disk drives
to an existing array:

    1. Insert a disk drive into the tray.

    2. Allow time for the drive to spin up (approximately 30 seconds).

    3. Run a health check to insure that the drive is not defective.

    4. Fail the drive then revive the drive to update DacStore on the
       drive.

    5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 until all drives have been added.

    6. New drives are now ready for LUN creation.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
     the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
     need arises.
