Issue Description:
As of this time, only SUN IEEE 1394 cables are qualified on IEEE
compliant 1394 Camera. Some third party IEEE 1394 cables have been
tested, but there have been instances where the pins do not fully
engage and the connector might come loose.
The 1394 camera is a digital video camera which complies with the
general IEEE 1394-1995 specification and the specific IEEE 1394 Trade
Association Digital Camera Specification version 0.4. The latter
determines the class driver for the sun camera and any other
manufacturers of a camera that complies with that specification. The
Sun IEEE 1394 Camera was announced for release on October 26, 2000.
The sun provided IEEE 1394 cable and off-the-shelf IEEE 1394 cables are
pin-for-pin compatible, as per the IEEE specification. The difference
is that the off-the shelf IEEE 1394 cables have connector sleeve
lengths at the limit of the IEEE 1394 specification. There could be a
loose mechanical fit and the connector might detach from the camera if
the cable is moved excessively.
The 1394 camera specification, "1394TA Camera Spec, Ver 1.04," can
be found at the following URL:

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives and Warranty Customers who
may be encountering the above mentioned problem.
Any application that wishes to use the SUN IEEE 1394 Camera must use
the Sun cable (P/N 530-2960) to guarantee a secure mechanical
interconnect, and full EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference) compliance.
Comments:

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
