Issue Description:
Sun StorEdge 3120 AC power supply units may fail as a result of electrical
arc-over, causing a failover to the second array power supply. The SE3120
has two identical but indepedent AC power supply FRUs to provide power
redundancy to the system. The SE3120 will continue to operate normally when
one AC power supply FRU fails. If this occurs the good power supply becomes
a single point of failure for the system.

This issue impacts arrays shipped between 3-Mar-2004 and 1-Oct-2004. The
affected serial number range is 1094DUN-0249901035 to 1094DUN-0439904989. It
is expected that a maximum of 3.3% of the units shipped during this time period
will experience the issue.

If an AC power supply fails due to this issue, the SE3120 front panel
Power/Fan LED will turn from Solid Green (power supply good) to Solid Amber,
and the back-panel Power Supply LED on the failed power supply FRU will also
turn from Solid Green (power supply good) to Solid Amber. After one AC power
supply FRU fails, the SE3120 Audible Alarm will sound.

Root cause of the power supply failure has been determined to be electrical
arc-over between turn #1 and turn #50 in the transformer inside the SE3120 AC
power supply FRU.

This issue has been addressed via a process change at the power supply vendor.
It involves adding plastic insulating tape in the middle of the transformer
between turn #1 and turn #50 to prevent the electrical arc-over that causes
the transformer and the power supply to fail. This fix has been tested and
verified by the supplier. This fix will have no unfavorable effects on the
power supply reliability and MTBF number.

The part number has NOT been dash-rolled and it remains F370-6193-01. No ECO
was issued because this was handled as a process change instead of a design
change. The new PSU units have date code 0439 or higher and the revision
was changed to Rev. D. Purge Notice P001-20232 was issued and a Sun internal
screen of systems and FRU's was done via DPCO #476.
Implementation:

 ---
| | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
 ---

 ---
| X | UPON FAILURE
 ---
Replacement Time Estimate:
0.1 hours
Special Considerations:
This FCO will have a time zone phased release based on material
readiness as follows:

                   Readiness Date
                   --------------
   US/Canada 01/28/2005
   Ltn America 01/28/2005
   EMEA 02/15/2005
   APAC 02/15/2005
   Japan 02/15/2005

The above dates represent when each time zone has determined that
it will be materially ready to support this FCO.
Corrective Action:
Upon failure of an SE3120 AC power supply FRU,

Replace 370-6193-01 with 370-6193-01 having a date code of 0439 (or later),
OR with 370-6193-01 having a DPCO #476 sticker.

Note: The date code on the power supply is part of the serial number on
the barcode label. The format is 1094XYZ-YYWWSNSNSN, where YYWW is
the year and week of manufacture.

Please refer to Chapter 8, Installing FRUs in the document "Sun StorEdge 3000
Family Installation, Operation, and Service Manual, Sun StorEdge 3120 SCSI Array,
(816-7956-11)" for steps on how to replace a failed AC power supply.
Comments:
None.

Implementation Notes
--------------------

In case of "Mandatory" FCOs, Sun Services will attempt to contact
all known customers to recommend proactive implementation.

For "Controlled Proactive" FCOs, Sun Services mission critical
support teams will initiate proactive implementation efforts for
their respective accounts, as required.

For "Upon Failure" FCOs, Sun Services and partners will implement
the necessary corrective actions as the need arises.

The CIC process must be used for proactive hardware replacement
requests when an FCO is classified as "Upon Failure".
