Issue Description:
Sun Fire V1280 and Netra 1280 systems manufactured between December 20, 2002
and March 31, 2003, may experience a thermal event if the PCI gasket is
dislodged during servicing.

Dislodgment of the PCI gasket may occur when I/O devices are removed and
reinserted. This can result in smoke and carbonization of the chassis due to
a grounding short.

A complete list of affected systems and customers is provided via the below
"Internal Only" URL;

  http://sdpsweb.central/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0221-1_Dir/CustomerList.sxc

The affected servers have a platform serial number range of:

        246M2086 to 311M23DD

This issue only occurs if the PCI gasket is dislodged.

Factory failure rate was 1.65%. At this time no customers have been affected
and the issue has only been seen within Sun.

There have been 8 failures observed in the total 488 manufactured servers,
and these were observed only in the manufacturing facility prior to the
implementation of an improved PCI gasket material.

The affected servers may be identified by physical inspection of the part
number/serial number bar code label as shown below:

Sun bar code label example below:

    312M238A
    ||||||||
    |||\\\\\
    ||| \\\\\
    \\\ --------------- unique serial number identifier
     \\\
      ------------ date code - 312 = year 2003, week 12

Note: All systems manufactured after after March 16, 2003 contain a new
unaffected gasket.

To assist the field in the communication of this issue to customers, a
Customer Letter is provided via the below "Internal Only" URL;

    http://sdpsweb.central/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0221-1_Dir/Customer_Letter.sxw

This Customer Letter may be accessed by Sun Strategic Partners via the below
link into the SPE portal;

    http://sdpsweb.central/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0221-1_Dir/SPE/Customer_Letter.ps

Root cause has been traced to a defective PCI gasket that may become dislodged
resulting in a short to ground condition.

Resulting damage is typically an estimated 9 square inch to 16 square inch
(58 sq. centimeter to 104 sq. centimeter) carbonized area that is the result
of a grounding short to chassis.

Corrective action was made available in Manufacting via ECO# WO_26229 as of
March 14, 2003.

The new gasket kit was introduced via ECO# WO_26998 as of August 28, 2003 and
LEAP# 2389, also released August 28, 2003.

Corrective Action:
Using the customer list provided above, proactively do the following:

   - replace current gasket on 540-5565-02 or 540-5290-03 with 560-2736-01
Comments:
The above issue is associated with a thermal event that can result in damage
to the chassis. Therefore, replacement of PCI gaskets should be expediated.

The Serviceability team has requested the use of dedicated teams, wherever
possible, to perform the installation.
