--------------

Under certain conditions, Sun Fire 15K servers with Sytem Expander Boards that
contain AXQ 6.0 ASICs, may experience a rare deadlock condition that will
result in a DSTOP. Only Sun Fire 15K servers shipped prior to April 1, 2002
are affected. Sun Fire 12K Servers are not impacted as] none where shipped
with affected System Expander Boards.

No silent data corruption occurs has a result of this problem.

This issue can occur with the following configuration:

 o Sun Fire 15K with Expander Board 501-5179-16 or earlier.

This issue is only known to occur on large I/O configurations with streaming
I/O mode turned on, especially when stressing I/O paths. The probability of
experiencing the described issue is very low, and has been seen on less than
1% of all F15K systems. This issue has been seen in customer configurations
using the X6799A (PCI Single FC Host Adapter), X6727A (PCI Dual FC Network
Adapter+), and a QLogic version of an enhanced 6799A card. However, this
issue is not limited to configurations using only these adapters.

All Sun Fire 15K servers shipped since April 1, 2002 are configured
with the new 6.1 AXQ ASIC and are not impacted by this bug.

The Sun Fire 15K domain will experience a domain stop (Dstop). This
can be identified by the following example error messages logged
to the domain message log in the /var/opt/SUNWSMS/adm/[A-R]/messages file.

 Mar 27 14:57:36 2002 sc0 dsmd[1246]-B(): [2516 55278088712478 ERR
 EventHandler.cc 126] Domain stop has been detected in domain B

 Mar 27 14:57:36 2002 sc0 dsmd[1246]-B(): [2525 55278436694370 NOTICE
 SysControl.cc 2149] Taking hardware configuration dump. Dump file:
 -D/var/opt/SUNWSMS/SMS1.2/adm/B/dump/dsmd.dstop.020327.1457.36

This issue has been root caused to a bug in the AXQ 6.0 ASIC.

Corrective action was made available in manufacturing via ECO# WO_23311
by dash rolling FRU part number 501-5179 to -17 on April 01, 2002.
Corrective action was made available in Enterprise Services via
LEAP# 1962.B on April 29, 2002. Additionally, new part number
501-6376-02 was made available as a substitution for the 501-5179
via ECO# WO_25284 as of November 13, 2002.
