Issue Description:
On a Sun Fire V880 (Daktari), the 3.3V DC-DC Converter (located on the CPU/Mem
Board) can fail causing the system to shutdown and start a reboot process around
the failed CPU/Mem Board. After the system reboots it will experience a
performance degradation due to the lost CPU/Mem Board.

Failed CPU/Mem Boards can be identified by inspecting the CPU Status Panel
located inside the right panel door. A failed CPU/Mem Board would not have
the Green (power) light illuminated for that slot.

A root cause analysis has determined the problem to be related to a faulty
design of the 3.3V DC-DC Converter board FAB which is a socketed board on the
CPU/Mem Board. The 1.5V DC-DC Converter is not affected. Corrective action
has been taken in the form of a new board layout design which will eliminate
the quality issue as well as process improvements at the manufacturer.

All SunFire V880 systems were placed on StopShip as of January 29th, 2002.
Good systems began shipping as of February 8, 2002.

Corrective Action was made available in Worldwide Operations by dash rolling the
3.3V DC-DC Converter from 300-1437-03 to 300-1437-04 via ECO# WO_23124 on
January 13, 2002, and by dash rolling the CPU Module from 501-5818-05 to
501-5818-07 via ECO# WO_23128 on February 1, 2002. Corrective action was made
available in Enterprise Services by issuing LEAP 1906 on February 6, 2002 and by
releasing a 3.3V DC-DC Converter FCO Kit (560-2681-01) via ECO# WO_23160, and by
issuing LEAP 1911 on February 7, 2002.

The below link to a Sun Alert has a "Restricted" Distribution. Please print
and use this Sun Alert instead of the customer letter. Communicate to your
*affected* customers only. Typically, Sun Alerts have a wider distribution
on Contract and Free SunSolve but we have enhanced the Sun Alert program to
include what is known as "Targeted Sun Alerts" for affected customers only.

Special Considerations:
All Sun Fire V880 systems shipped prior to February 1, 2002 may be affected.
Therefore, any Sun Fire V880 system with a serial number of 205xxxxx or later
can be presumed good, with the exception of systems from Reseller Channels
where a affected CPU/Mem Board may have been added by the Reseller prior
to shipment to their end-user.

To help identify affected customers the following URL provides a record of
all affected Daktari systems and xoptions shipped out of Manufacturing;

  http://sdpsweb.EBay/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0188-1_Dir/Customer_List
Corrective Action:
Proactively contact all affected customers and replace the 3.3V DC-DC Converter
(Sun p/n 300-1437-03 or below) with DC-DC Converter FCO Kit (Sun p/n
560-2681-01). Affected DC-DC Converters can be found on the CPU/Mem Board (Sun
p/n 501-5818-05 or below) not having an ECO rework lable as listed below.

Reference the following chart to determine if a CPU/Mem Board has an affected
DC-DC Converter:

|__________________|____________________|_______________________|

NOTE: The 501-5818-06 was never released. Check for ECO# WO_23128 label
which will be located next to the system serial number (on the left
side of the sytem). If this ECO label is present, the system was
updated with a new DC-DC Converter prior to shipment from the
factory and is not affected. Reference the following picture that
shows the where these ECO labels are affixed in the factory.

        http://sdpsweb.EBay/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0188-1_Dir/MVC-013F.JPG

Please note that all CPU/Mem Boards below -07 have no dash or revision labels
applied to the CPU/Mem Board face plate. Only the CPU/Mem Board part number
and serial number barcode is present. If no dash/revision label is seen,
and there is no rework label applied (WO_23128 or WO_23160), rework is
required. Part number 501-6360 is a newer version of the CPU/Mem Board
and is not impacted by this issue.

Instructions (in English) for installing the kit will be included in each kit.
These instructions may also be found at the below URL;

  http://sdpsweb.EBay/FIN_FCO/FCO/FCO_A0188-1_Dir/dc2dc.pdf

NOTE: These instructions contain an error in that it states rework is
required if ECO label WO_23160 is not found on the faceplate of the
CPU/Mem Board. However, rework is not required if either of the
      following ECO labels are located on the CPU/Mem Board faceplate;

             WO_23160 or WO_23128

Once the DC-DC Converter Kit is installed ensure that the ECO Label (included
in the kit) is applied to the CPU/Mem Board per the rework instructions
contained in the Kit.
