Issue Description:
The batteries in the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) of the RSM Array 2000 and the
StorEdge A3000 have a design life of two years. In order to ensure the BBU
can maintain the controller's Write-Back Cache (WBC) for the specified minimum
72 hour period during a power outage, the BBU must be replaced before the
batteries in the BBU exceed the two year designed life span.

The Battery Canister or BBU (Sun p/n 370-2434-01) provides no indication of
a battery which has a low charge or may have a hardware problem.

Corrective action was implemented in Sun Manufacturing via ECO# WO_13238 on
June 19, 1998 by releasing the 370-2434-02 which contains (Amber) fault and
(Green) charge indicator LEDs. The Amber LED indicates a hardware fault
within the BBU and the Green LED indicates a fully charged battery.

Corrective action was implemented in Enterprise Services via LEAP_1073 on
December 14th, 1999 which instructed the field to purge and scrap the
370-2434-01, and to set MAL to 370-2434-02.
Implementation:
---
  	| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
	 ---

         ---
  	| X | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
	 ---

         ---
  	| | UPON FAILURE
	 ---
Replacement Time Estimate:
30 minutes
Special Considerations:
The Storage A3500 is not affected as it began shipping with the 370-2434-02
in July of 1998. All Battery Backup Units (BBUs), regardless of dash level,
should be replaced every two years.
Corrective Action:
All customer storage Battery Backup Units (BBU) should be audited to verify
the installation or expiration label for the time remaining on them.

Once the battery life has been identified, customers should be advised of the
current status of these consumable items so replacement units can be ordered
and installed before the 2 year expiration date. Upon completion of an audit,
if any BBUs are nearing expiration, it is recommended they be replaced as
soon as is practicable.

Replace all 370-2434-01 on or before the end of 2 year design life has
expired with 370-2434-02.
Comments:
All Battery Backup Units (BBUs), regardless of dash level, should be
replaced every two years.
