PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Under some configurations involving multiple scsi devices, such
as the MultiPack and the UniPack residing on a Fast/Wide (68-pin)
single-ended SCSI bus, the following error message may be seen.
Other failure conditions may include an inability to boot.

	WARNING: /sbus@1f,0/SUNW,fas@0,8800000/sd@2,0 (sd17):
Error for Command: write(10) Error Level: Retryable

        Sense Key: Aborted Command
ASC: 0x47 (scsi parity error), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x3

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Review the following, updated, Configuration Guidelines for Fast/Wide single-
ended SCSI busses and perform the needed re-configuration of the SCSI
devices to comply with the Guidelines.

General Single-ended Rules - A Wide SCSI bus supports up to
fifteen target devices while Narrow SCSI supports seven.
Daisychained configurations must not exceed 6 meters total
bus length (including internal and external bus length).
Mixing Wide and Narrow devices on the same bus is allowed,
but special considerations and cabling are required.

	On a Fast/Wide SCSI system connection (16-bit, 68-pin)
always connect the Wide devices first. On a Fast/Narrow SCSI
system connnection (8-bit, 50-pin) always connect the Narrow
	devices first.

An external terminator is required on the last external
Narrow device enclosure. Most Wide external enclosures have
internal automatic termination; however, an external
terminator is recommended for multi-device applications.

MultiPack-12 - Only one MultiPack-12 subsystem is supported on any
SCSI bus and only on a Fast/Wide onboard host, SWIS/S or
	SunSwift host adapter.

MultiPack-6 - Two MultiPack-6 subsystems together with up to one
UniPack may be daisychained on a Fast/Wide SCSI host adapter
(SWIS or SunSwift). Only one MultiPack-6 together with up
to one UniPack may be chained on a Fast/Wide onboard host
port or on any Fast/Narrow SCSI bus.

2.1GB UniPack - Four 2.1GB 7200rpm UniPacks can be chained on a
Fast/Wide SCSI host adapter (SWIS or SunSwift) or on any
Fast/Narrow host port. Only three 2.1GB UniPacks are
supported on a Fast/Wide onboard host port.

All Other UniPacks - Up to four UniPacks of any kind may be
daisychained together on any SCSI bus. However, up to five
4.2GB or 1.05GB UniPacks may be chained on a Fast/Wide SCSI
	host adapter (SWIS/S or SunSwift).

Bug ID: 1248328 wide SCSI and auto terminating
	FIN# I0276-1
Issue Description:
On some Ultra1 and Ultra2 systems with Fast/Wide single-ended SCSI
buses consisting of external devices and 2GB-7200rpm disk drives, users
have reported SCSI parity errors similar to the one shown below. The
condition is seen most often when there are internal 2GB-7200rpm disk drives
and MultiPack-12 (2GB) enclosures are on the same SCSI bus.

SCSI Warning - write parity errors:

WARNING: /sbus@1f,0/SUNW,fas@0,8800000/sd@2,0 (sd17):
Error for Command: write(10) Error Level: Retryable
Requested Block: 2719344 Error Block: 2719344
         Vendor: SEAGATE Serial Number: 01305322
         Sense Key: Aborted Command
ASC: 0x47 (scsi parity error), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x3

The problem is caused by electronic signal slew in the Fast/Wide single-ended
SCSI bus. It is aggravated by devices which have particularly fast slew rates,
like the FEPS (2.2) chip and Seagate 2GB-7200rpm disk drives.
Corrective Action:
Upon failure on a Fast/Wide single-ended SCSI bus, the following steps may
be taken in sequence till the problem is fixed.

        1. Reposition devices on the external bus or correct the
configuration per Configuration Guidelines published in
FIN # I0276-1 (included at bottom of this document).

        2. Install an external Fast/Wide SCSI FPT 68-pin terminator
(F150-2267) at the end of the SCSI bus.
