Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document addresses the identification of failed or failing power cooling unit (PCU) in the array via various symptoms provided.

  • SSRR reports failed PCU.
  • Storade reports a Device Alert on a failed PCU.
  • PCU amber fault LED lit.
Please validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.

Instructions for the Reader

A Troubleshooting Guide is provided to assist in debugging a specific issue. When possible, diagnostic tools are included in the document to assist in troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting Details

1. Verify that you can log into your Service Processor and collect a Solution Extract.

If you cannot log into your Service processor, reference <> Troubleshooting StorEdge 6920[TM] Browser and sscs(1M) Access Problems.

2. Verify the status of the PCU via the Solution Extract and fru_stat file for your array.

  1. Click on Storage Automated Diagnostic Environment.
  2. Click on Administration Tab -> Utilities Tab -> Solution Extract Tab.
  3. Your solution extract from Step 1, should be listed, click on the View Content link.
  4. Look at the Arrays section(this is usually at the top).
  5. Click on the arrayNN/commands/fru_stat output.

The Arrays section comprises output from each 6020 tray in the 6920 Array.  You should be able to get the array name in question from the Alarm, or email notification you were sent.

  • If the status is fault disabled, the PCU will need replacement.  Please contact Oracle with a current Solution Extract.  Reference <> Collecting a Solution Extract for a StorEdge[TM] 6920.
  • If the status is ready enabled, and there is no fault LED on the PSU, clear the alarm, as the PSU is optimal.
  • If the status is ready enabled, and the PCU has a fault LED, check the battery state.  Reference <> Troubleshooting StorEdge[TM] 6920 Battery Faults.
  • If the status is ready-disabled, go to Step 3.
  • If the status is fault-enabled output=fault, the fault-enabled output=fault status indicates that there is a DC output problem to the array.  This is primarily the PCU, but in some cases can also be the battery backup device.  Please contact Oracle with a current Solution Extract.  Reference <> Collecting a Solution Extract for a StorEdge[TM] 6920.
3. Verify that the power switch is in the ON position.

Recheck status of the PCU after toggling the switch. 
If the status persists continue to Step 4.

4. Verify that AC power cords are firmly inserted into the PCU and the power sequencer.

If the cable had to be reseated, and the the problem persists, continue to Step 5.

5. Verify that there is power to the rack for that sequencer.

If the power is restored to the rack, and the problem persists, contact Oracle with a current Solution Extract.
