Description
This document details how to troubleshoot SCSI in phase parity errors.

Steps to Follow
Main causes of SCSI in phase parity errors are:
  1. GLM patch level on the machine is not up-to-date
  2. cable problem
  3. termination, terminators

First, verify which device is receiving the SCSI in phase parity errors by running the path through a device path decoder. Once you determine the device, check all cables going to that device for proper seating and termination. Check the GLM patch level on the machine to ensure that the patch level is up to date:

SunOS 5.8: glm patch 109885-18
SunOS 5.9: kernel/drv/glm Patch 114731-07

If the GLM patch is udpated, and the terminator and cables appear to be seated correctly, you can attempt replacement of the terminator and the cables.

If all of the above has been attempted, and errors persist, determine if a backplane exists for the device receiving the errors, as that will likely be the next avenue of investigation.
