Goal

To inform field personnel if installing and running Oracle Solaris explorer routine is supported on VTL server.

Solution

Generally no additional software should be installed on the VTL server, everything that is needed is installed in manufacturing.  However, Oracle Solaris explorer is an exception and can be installed and run at the request of the Server or Solaris support group in order to collect server information for remote troubleshooting.

NOTE:  When running explorer, exclude the disks/storage module, otherwise the scripts will run for hours (depending on number of disks attached) and will force storage off preferred paths.
To exclude all disk storage from processing:
  • When using sh or ksh, use: explorer -w default,!storage

  • When using csh or bash, use: explorer -w default,\!storage
