How to remove and replace a Sun Fire V445 XFP Card

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
Schedule for immediate delivery within contractual terms.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 mins

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty XFP card

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown
Power down System & disconnect Power Cords

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Identify the correct interface & Unplumb the interface using below command from OS

#ifconfig ce0 unplumb
2. Powering off the system
3. Remove the top cover
4. Disconnect any external cables attached to the faceplate of the XFP card.
5. Release the latch securing the XFP card to the chassis.
6. Pull the XFP card from its slot
7. Place the XFP card on an antistatic mat
8. Install the new XFP card into its slot
9. Rotate the latch down and secure it with the retaining pin.
10.If necessary, connect any external cables to the XFP card.
11.Install the top cover.
12.Power on the system

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot the system and start the application as per the sys admin procedure
