CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Replace a X4450 DVD Drive

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for X4450 platform.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
Schedule with maintenance window within contractual terms.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Power off the server as described in Powering Off the Server.

2. If the server is in a rack, slide it far enough from the rack so that you can remove the main cover and front cover. If you cannot safely view and access the component, remove the server from the rack.

3. Remove the main cover as described in Removing the Main Cover.

4. Remove the front bezel as described in Removing the Front Bezel.

5. Remove the front cover as described in Removing the Front Cover.

6. Remove the upper cable retainer from the chassis midwall.

7. Disconnect the flex cable connector from the rear of the DVD-ROM drive.

8. Pull the spring latch at the front of the DVD-ROM drive to the left and hold it. Use your other hand to reach behind the drive and push it out through the front of the chassis.

9. Installation is the reverse of this procedure.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart system and have the System administrator verify functionality of system.
