How to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire T2000 Graphics Card

Solution

*DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS*

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
A system outage will need to be negotiated with the customer, within
service contract hours.

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
T2000 Graphics PCI Card replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0").Then,
At the OK prompt Type #. (in key sequence) to get into ALOM.
Run the following commands from the ALOM:
1. setlocator on
2. poweroff

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Shutting the System Down

2. Extending the Server to the Maintenance Position

3. Performing Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures

4. Disconnecting Power From the Server

5. Removing the Top Cover

6. Unpackage the replacement Graphic Card PCI-Express and place
it on an antistatic mat.

7. Locate the Graphic PCI card that you want to remove.

8. Remove video cable that is attached to the Graphic PCI card and remove Graphic card
by Rotate the PCI hold-down bracket 90 degrees so you can remove card carefully out
of the socket.

9. Insert New Graphics PCI card into the socket by Rotate the PCI hold-down bracket 90
degrees to lock the card in place.
10.Re-install Video cable.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
At Alom prompt:
1. setlocator off
2. poweron
3. console
At OK prompt Boot

Customer restart software applications per applicable administration
guides to resume system operation.
