How To Remove and Replace V210/V240 PCI Card

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED:
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT: Schedule for immediate replacement within contractual terms.

Estimate AP Duration: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty PCI card.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

1. Ensure the server is powered off.
2. Ensure that the server is properly grounded.
3. Open the back section of the server.
4. Unscrew the PCI lockdown screw on the back of the server.
5. Remove the PCI lockdown bracket on the inside of the server.
6. Slide the PCI card support clear of the PCI card.
7. Pull up on the riser card support handle to slide it to another position.
8. Disconnect and remove the PCI card.
9. Locate the replacement PCI card in the appropriate slot and press it firmly into the connector.
10. Locate the PCI card support so that it supports the back of the card.
11. Attach the PCI lockdown bracket and tighten the PCI lockdown screw.
12. Refit cover.

13. If system is degraded after repair seek assistance
