Goal

Will the WWNN remain the same after an MPU2 to PUA upgrade?  Also, will the WWPN remain the same for Port1 and will the WWPN for Port2 increment by some value over the value of Port1?

This is kind of important information for a customer that will be doing an upgrade from an MPU2 or needs to pre-configure zoning during an install.

Solution

The WWNN / WWPN values are derived by the seed value on the PUK card. Therefore, when changing the MPU2 card to a PUA/PUA2 card the WWNN will be the same as the MPU2 card. The WWPN will remain the same for port 1.  For the second port, it depends on if the card is a PUA or a PUA2.  PUA will increment by 2, PUA2 will increment by 1.

Note: The PUA card has 4 interfaces but only Ports 1 & 3 are active.  The PUA2 card has 2 interfaces and both Ports are active.  The PUA2 card is not yet shipping as of Feb 2011.
