Goal

To provide guidance on collecting analytics data for troubleshooting CIFS performance issues

Solution

To review the system and CIFS performance and possibly an issue associated with it, the following statistic in the analytics will be useful. This is a top level statistic, the support engineer handling your issue may request for any other specific statistic as and when the understanding of the issue deepens.

Statistic:
CPU: percent utilization
Cache: ARC accesses per second broken down by hit/miss
Cache: L2ARC accesses per second broken down by hit/miss
Disk: Disks broken down by percent utilization
Disk: I/O operations per second broken down by disk
Disk: I/O bytes per second broken down by disk
Network: interface bytes per second broken down by interface
Protocol: CIFS operations per second broken down by type of operation
Protocol: CIFS operations per second broken down by share
Protocol: CIFS operations per second broken down by size
Protocol: CIFS operations per second broken down by offset
Protocol: CIFS operations per second broken down by latency

Steps:
    1. In BUI under Analytics use "+" icon to add above statistics and save the worksheet with a name eg: 'cifsperf'. Now you may close the worksheet and datasets will continue to run in the background.

    2. After the problem has been observed
      • Open the saved worksheet
      • Synchronize all statistics
      • Pause the statistics, zoom in or out as appropriate to cover time of the problem as well as up to certain extent the normal performance time
      • Save and Close the worksheet
      • Use the following command to send out the bundle with worksheet
aksh> analytics worksheets select name=cifsperf sendbundle

3. Provide the name of the file which was uploaded, the date time and TZ of the problem to the support engineer.
