Goal

This document is intended to assist field engineers and customers in retrieving a Sun VTL xray, for aiding in remote support of Sun VTL servers.

Solution

Background

VTL Xray is collected by the field engineer or customer, in order for VTL support engineer to analyze and/or troubleshoot VTL issues. This document has step by step instructions for collecting the Xray with the VTL Console GUI.

Exceptions

In Sun VTL failover configurations, when a node has failed over, user will not be able to use VTL Console to collect Xray from the failed node. The document 1146464.1 explains how to get the Xray from the failed node from command line.

Expectations

The customer or the engineer is expected to be familiar with the Oracle-Sun VTL product including VTL Console and should have access to an instance of VTL Console that can connect to the VTL server where the Xray is needed.

Steps to collect the xray from vtlconsole gui.

  1. Login to the vtlconsole.
  2. Right click the VTL node which needs the xray taken.
  3. Select connect.
  4. Login to the VTL node
  5. Right click the VTL node again and Select xray from the drop down list.
  6. If you wish to direct where the xray file will be placed Click the button with [...] and select the file location.
Note: Xray files are placed in the directory structure of the system where the VTL Console is run from.
  7. Select the Take X-ray button.
  8. Once the Xray is collected it can be attached to MOS SR or uploaded to Oracle supportfiles (http://supportfiles.sun.com/upload).
