Goal

SL3000 - How to Disable or Configure Less Slots Then Licensed

A Customer has a SL3000 with 900 Slots license but due to in-sufficient backup software license, they want to use only 700 Slots on SL3000.

Solution

This is done at the "Select Active Cells" menu option of the remotely connected SLC.
There you can select zero storage cells or up to the maximum licensed count.

NOTE:
When making any changes to the active cell configuration...
   (From the SL3000 user's guide)

With FC-SCSI libraries, whenever you make any of the following changes, the library goes offline temporarily with a Unit Attention condition:

- Activate or de-activate a storage cell
- Add, change, or remove a host connection
- Remove an empty drive slot

Multiple error messages may be generated, and all hosts must issue the appropriate commands to update their library configuration information.  See the appropriate tape management software documentation for detailed procedures and commands.  In the case of adding or removing drives, the device SCSI numbering is updated as well.
