Goal

How to change SL3000 interface from N_port to NL_port.
==========================================
Customer has just started to test a newly installed SL3000.
Customer can scan the drives fine.  However the library can not be seen.
Customer is stating that the fiber needs to log in as NL.

Within slconsole pdf, there is an option to change the interface type on the selected cells.
If this is already set, to FC_SCSI, is there any setting that can be performed to get the port to NL vs N.

Solution

There is no manual way to change the SL3000  from N_port to NL_port.
This is controlled at the switch.

If the SL3000 has an operator panel (an optional feature) attached you can easily check to see if the library is set to FC/SCSI  or HLI.

The menu option at the operator panel are:
Select Tools > Select Active Cells.
View the Interface Type box to equal FC-SCSI.

If the Interface Type box is equal to HLI, you will need to connect an external PC running SLC to the library and change this setting.
After making the changes, reboot the library.
Verify you have cells assigned to a number equal to the licensed slot count.

If the library is currently set to FC-SCSI and you are sure the installing FE rebooted the library after making this setting, your next step is to go to the attached switch and configure the switch and verify the switch port setting.
You may also want the tape drives in a separate zone from the library.

Finally if the OS isn't "seeing" the library.  Verify the backup application has loaded the driver to support the library.

Review the "SL3000 Fibre Channel Interface" manual for more reference material.
