Goal

This instruction is intended for the First Tech Touch (FTT) process and will guide FTT staff through the process assisting the customer in determining the VTL product name, when the build is 1323, using the VTL Console.
VTL build 1323 is the only build that spans two different Sun VTL products, VTL Value and VTL Plus 1.0.
This instruction will help FTT staff guide the customer through the VTL Console to determine which product (VTL Value or VTL Plus 1.0) the build is running on.

Solution

Steps to Follow
Getting the VTL product name from VTL Console, when the build is 1323 or later. These steps identify a basic difference between the VTL Value and the VTL Plus 1.0 product. The VTL Value uses SCSI devices for its disks and the VTL Plus uses Fibre Channel devices for its disks. This step by step will walk the customer through the vtlconsole in the event that the customer doesn't know which product they have, after you have determined build 1323. SCSI storage devices indicate a VTL Value, Fibre Channel Devices indicate a VTL Plus 1.0.
  1. Ask the customer to access their VTL Console and highlight the VTL server they have issues with.
  2. The customer will have to log into the VTL server with login and password.
  3. Ask the customer to select the VTL server name from the tree on the left side of screen.
  4. The customer will see a new screen that shows general information about the selected VTL server.
  5. Ask the customer to left click the plus sign to the left of the vtlserver they have selected
  6. The customer will see a detail tree drop down from the VTL server name
  7. Ask the customer to left click the plus sign to the left of Physical Resources.
  8. The customer will see a detail tree drop down from Physical Resources.
  9. Ask the customer to left click the plus sign to the left of Storage Devices.
  10. The customer will see a detail tree drop down from Storage Devices.
  11. Ask the customer to left click Fibre Channel Devices.
  12. Verify with customer if any Fibre Channel devices appear.
If true, the server is "VTL Plus 1.0" product, skip steps 13 & 14.
If false, proceed to step 13.
  13. Ask the customer to left click SCSI Devices.
  14. Verify with customer if any SCSI Devices appear.
If true, the server is "VTL Value" product
