Sun StorEdge[TM] L25/L100 Tape Library: How to configure SNMP Alert

Step 1 : Prepare

1-1 Make sure you can access Prism Management Card(PMC) through Web Browser.

Refer to Prism Management Card User's Guide.

1-2 Make sure MC300 PMC has firmware version 4.3.1 or later.

Refer to patch ID 116168-02 .

Step 2 : Configure SNMP Alert

2-1 In the navigation frame on PMC console web page, under ALERT SNMP, click SNMP Configuration.

The management frame displays the SNMP Configuration page. If the user/password is required, use the default user/password(admin/admin).

2-2 Edit the library name or location, if necessary.

- Library Name : This field allows you to view or set the Library name for the PMC. If no Library Name is defined, the default Library Name is the Hostname of the PMC system. - Location : This field allows you to enter the location of the PMC.

2-3 Edit the configuration information as required.

- Informational Traps : If this check box is selected, then traps set to the "Info" level are enabled.

- Warning Traps : If this check box is selected, then traps set to the "Warn" level are enabled.

- Failure Traps : If this check box is selected, then traps set to the "Fail" level are enabled.

- Available Traps : If this check box is selected, a trap will be generated every time the library transitions from an unavailable to an available state.

- Unavailable Traps : If this check box is selected, then a trap will be generated every time the library transitions from an available to an unavailable state.

The Details buttons provide a listing of the supported traps for the Informational, Warning, and Failure trap types.

2-4 Enter trap destinations.

These five fields allows you to view or set the IP Addresses that are to receive the traps generated by the PMC, for example, 192.168.1.16. Up to five Trap Destination address may be set. If less than five Trap Destinations are required, leave unused Trap Destination fields blank.

2-5 Click Apply. A Results page indicates :

SNMP configuration file updated Trap configuration file updated

2-6 Click OK to return to the SNMP Configuration page.

Step 3 : Configure SNMP Community

To perform SNMP "get" and "set" operations, SNMP management software must specify a Community name as part of the context of the request. To perform a set operation, the SNMP management software must provide a Community name with "Read-write" privilege.
All SNMP requests must conform to the IP access rules.

NOTE: Requests made in the context of an unknown community, or a community with insufficient access rights, may result in confusing "object not found" error messages.

3-1 In the navigation frame on PMC console web page, under ALERT SNMP, click Community Management.

The management frame displays the Community Management page.

3-2 Under Edit Community, click Edit.

The management frame displays the Edit Community page.

3-3 Under Add Community, enter the community information.

- Community Name : Enter a unique name.

- IP Address : Enter a Network IP Address to be associated with the community name.

- Subnet Mask : Enter a subnet mask to be associated with the community name.

- Access : Select the desired access rights for the new community, "Read-only," or "Read-write." "Read-only" access allows SNMP get operations, but not SNMP put operations. "Read-write" access allows both SNMP get and put operations.

3-4 Click Add. A Results page indicates:

Community file updated.

3-5 Click OK to return to the Edit Community page.

Step 4 : Get additional SNMP integration information

If necessary, get additional SNMP integration information from the following webpage.
You can get a MIB file(ATL.mib) from this webpage.
