Description
This document explains the significance of a steady red LED of the Sun StorEdge [TM] 6320/6920 Service Processor USB flash disk.

Steps to Follow
The Sun StorEdge[TM] 6320/6920 Service Processor (SP) has a flash disk connected to its USB port. This flash disk is used to save the personality files of the SP, so that they can be restored if the SP has to be replaced or reinstalled.

The Sun StorEdge 6920 system  Getting Started Guide , Chapter  , "Installing the System" and Section, "Installing the USB Flash Disk", mentions:

"To verify that the flash disk is installed correctly, look for a steady green LED light located at the top of the disk".

The Sun StorEdge 6320 system 1.2 Installation Guide, Appendix F,  Installing the USB Flash Disk , mentions:

If your flash disk has an LED green light, it displays when the flash disk connects correctly .

Though the above is true, the following needs to be understood too.

There is a cron job (/opt/SUNWsefbru/bin/fbr) that runs every 5 minutes on  the SP of the StorEdge[TM] 6920 and every 2 minutes on the SP of the StorEdge[TM]  6320,

which saves the personality information into the flash drive. The script first checks if  the flash drive is mounted and if it is not, will mount it.

The USB flash disk LED will remain a steady red while the drive is mounted. Hence the SP flash disk LED might turn red immediately after installing and might not be green as mentioned in the  Getting Started Guide .

In summary, the flash disk LED turning red does not indicate any problem. It only indicates that the USB drive has been mounted.
