Description

On a Sun Fire[TM] V445, if a graphics card is installed but no monitor is attached and the output is directed to the graphics card then the system will appear to hang in OBP probing IO

Steps to Follow

On the Sun Fire V445 if a graphics card is installed but is not being used for console output, ensure that the proper obp environmental variables are directed to ttya and not the screen. The OBP output-device default is screen and the input-device default is keyboard. The settings need to be ttya on both if you do not intend to use a monitor attached to the graphics card.

Use printenv at the ok prompt to check the input-device and output-device settings before installing the graphics card.

If the graphics card is not going to be attached to a monitor then make sure to change the input-device and output-device entries as follows:

ok>setenv input-device ttya
ok>setenv output-device ttya
