Description
On the firmware (tip/telnet) interface for the Sun StorEdge[TM] 3510 (SE3510) array, there is a menu entry for 'remote redundant controller' which can be either "enabled" or "disabled." It is disabled by default.
The firmware manual (for 3.27) only mentions this parameter to say:
Do not use these menu options. They are reserved for
specific troubleshooting procedures and should only be
used by qualified technicians.
This seems very cryptic... What does this parameter do? Why does
it need to remain 'disabled, and what could happen if you 'enable' it?

Steps to Follow
This parameter was originally introduced on previous Dothill arrays for
enabling remote redundant controllers in separate chassis at remote
locations. Neither Dothill nor Sun Microsystems support this type of
hardware configuration on the SE3510 array, and therefore, this parameter
(remote redundant controller) MUST remain 'disabled'.
One odd thing that was seen when the variable was 'enabled' was a lack of
correct controller failover when the primary controller failed.
The next version of the firmware documentation will be changed to
reflect this:
Do not use the Remote Redundant Controller menu option.
It is not supported by the RAID controller hardware.
