Goal

Description
What is a Universal Cleaning Cartridge on the LTO tape drive?

Universal Cleaning Cartridge: Oracle/STK now supports Universal Cleaning Cartridge whereas before each of the OEM(Original Equipment Manufacture) had their own unique cleaning media.  In lieu of using 3 different OEM vendor cleaning media's (HP, IBM, Seagate), Oracle/STK is supporting the universal cleaning cartridge for LTO.  Works with other LTO manufacturers like Seagate LTO, HP LTO, and IBM LTO.  The Universal Cleaning cartridge is good for about 50 cleaning cycles.

Solution

Steps to Follow
The LTO Consortium announced the availability of a new Universal Cleaning Cartridge.

This new cartridge, when combined with proper software upgrades to the IBM, HP or Seagate drives, allows a common cleaning cartridge to be used rather than a unique cleaning cartridge for each manufacturer's drive.

STK Part Number for Universal Cartridge: 313779401

STK Part Number for Label: 1700-CNVU

Firmware requirements to support Universal Cleaning Cartridge:

  1. L700/180 library code 3.1.xx
  2. L20/40/80 it will be in 2.10.00
  3. HP LTO drive e225
  4. Seagate LTO drive v1414
  5. IBM LTO Code 22u0
