Procedure for Collecting F-Tune and Stat Data.

Solution

Steps to Follow
The purpose of this technical tip is to provide information on how to collect the f-tune and stat information from an L700 or L180 or L1400 library.
This information is needed in developing resolutions with regards to L700/L180 libraries experiencing consistent and non-resolvable load and unload problems, dropped cartridges and other similar problems.

Open a Child-Case to the Backline representative that requested the ELS traces.  After gathering the following information, include the Case number in the subject line and email to Backline Support working the case.   The representative will analyze the output or forward the case and trace to Engineering.

Note: This information can be gathered while the library is operational.

1. The capture of the stat and f-tune data MUST be collected before opening the door, ipl'ng the library or power cycling the library and server. The information is gathered by connecting to the SER1 port (ELS) J33, and not the CSE port (CLI) - J30 on the MPC card of the L700 or L180 or L1400.

Note: With 2.20 code or later, the baud rate setting must be set to 38,400. The CSE will have to connect to the CSE port using their laptop, after starting a hyper-terminal session, they should get a els prompt.
-Turn on capture to file and then type: els stat all pr all
-After this output is done type: els ftune pr all

Note: A "get" operation must be done for any location you are wanting ftune data from.

The following command will provide a list of the FSC's currently stored in library: els fsc
Save this file to disk and upload using the File Transfer Service . Reference case number in the subject line.

2. If the tape is in the hand, check for a gap between the back of the hand and the tape. Try to get an approximate measurement of the gap.

3. Describe whether the cartridges were found on the library floor or under the calibration block.

4. Visually inspect the cartridge in the hand. Check for worn or smoothed out plastic where it may have been rubbing.

5. Pull the FSC log and upload file using using the File Transfer Service.
Reference the case number in the subject line.

Access to Service Manuals

Procedures for connecting to the library can be found in Chapter 4: "Remote Setup" in the Service Manuals for either library.
