This document describes the process of converting array management from SANtricity software to Common Array Manager(CAM).

Caveats

- All LUNs and host mappings created by SANtricity are automatically carried forward into CAM.

- Licenses entered through SANtricity remain active, valid, and recognized by CAM and do not normally need to be re-entered.
If you do need to enter or re-enter licenses, note that the license key format used by SANtricity differs from that for CAM.
SANtricity uses binary ".key" files and CAM uses ".xml" files.
Contact Sun to convert the binary ".key" file format to ".xml" format.

- When using CAM to move your volumes into pools, CAM will help you with the move. Initially, there is only one CAM pool (the Default pool) and only Factory-supplied profiles are defined. You can create more pools and define your own profiles to suit your needs.
This practice of alternating between CAM and SANtricity is discouraged.
Be aware of the effects the applications can have on each other.

Solution

Moving from SANtricity to CAM is not disruptive.
The array(s) will continue to function while you perform this procedure.

1. Exit SANtricity

2. Install and Launch CAM

3. Discover and register Array(s)

4. For CAM to manage the array volumes and volume groups (see table above for vocabulary changes), you need to create pools and profiles that match the configuration of your volumes and volume groups. You will need to know:

- Drive type (ie: FC, SSD, SATA)
- Number of drives
- Segment size of volumes
- RAID level of volume groups

See the Common Array Manager CLI Guide and Sun StorageTek Array Administration Guide for steps to create pools and profiles using the Command Lines (CLI) and/or Graphical User Interface (GUI).

NOTE: If you have volumes with differing segment sizes in the same volume group, you will need to have the volumes in separate pools within CAM, requiring separate profiles, as well.

5. Move your volumes into the pools(done via 'sscs modify volume' or volume details window in CAM.

Your array is now being managed by CAM.
