There is an option to the showdate command which lists all the available timezones. This option is '-t'. For example:

Try to avoid use of three letter abbreviations (such as 'EST') for the timezone.
Use the appropriate location-specific timezone instead, as it makes it simple to determine the actual timezone.
(For example, there are a number of timezones abbreviated as 'EST' around the world)

To set location-specific timezone on the system controller you need to specify it as an argument to setdate -t command:
