Description
Explanation of the system indicator board LEDs after powering on the Sun Fire[TM] V1280/Netra[TM] 1280.

Describe the purpose of the rocker switch on the front panel.



Steps to Follow
Before applying AC power to the Sun Fire[TM] V1280, or 48V DC to the Netra[TM] 1280, connect to SSC1, serial port A on the back on the system.

As soon as power is applied to the power inlet box, the system controller will start to boot. Refer to page 13 in the Sun Fire V1280/Netra 1280 Quick Reference Guide.

You do not need to press the Power On/Standby switch outlined above.

Open the front doors, and you'll see the green LEDS flashing on the four PSUs (Power Supply Units).

If they are not, check the power on the power inlet box for that PSU.

You will also notice Fan 3 is spinning - this is to provide cooling to the system controller.

Once the LOM firmware on the system controller is loaded, the source A&B LEDs on the System indicator board will light up.

The time taken for this to happen depends on how long it takes for the system controller to boot. This is a function of the SCPOST settings on the system controller. The default for SCPOST level is minimum, which will typically mean that from power on to having the source A&B LEDs on the System indicator board light up will be about 4 minutes.

To bring up the system fully, you can do one of two things:

1) Press the rocker switch

This will power on all the HPUs (Hot Plug Units), the PSUs (the flashing green lights will go steady green), and will initiate POST on the system. If auto-boot? is true, the system will boot up into the OS. If auto-boot? is false, the system will stop at the ok prompt.

OR

2) Issue the poweron command at the lom prompt:

lom> poweron

This will power on all the HPUs (Hot Plug Units), the PSUs (the flashing green lights will go steady green), and will initiate POST on the system. If auto-boot? is true, the system will boot up into the OS. If auto-boot? is false, the system will stop at the ok prompt.
