Solution

Power down the host system (using the front panel power button) or STOP or poweroff command from the SP's root/ILOM or SP's admin/ALOM command line interfaces, respectiely.
Unplug the system's power cord(s). Remove the system's top cover.
Implement all the usual anti-static-discharge methods...

Prepare an antistatic surface to set parts on during  the removal, installation, or replacement process. Place ESD-sensitive components such as the printed circuit boards on an antistatic mat. The following items can be used as an antistatic mat:

  • Antistatic bag used to wrap a Sun replacement part
  •  Sun ESD mat, part number 250-1088
  •  A disposable ESD mat (shipped with some replacement parts or optional system components)
  • Attach an antistatic wrist strap.

When servicing or removing server components, attach an antistatic strap to your wrist and then to a metal area on the chassis.

Disconnect any external cables from the PCI or XAUI card you intend to remove from the system.

Remove the PCI cross beam.

  * Loosen the two captive Phillips screws on each end  of the removable PCI cross beam.

  * Slide the PCI cross beam back to remove it from the chassis.

  * There are two mushroom standoffs which secure the removable cross beam to the back of the system.

  * Loosen the captive screw securing the riser to the motherboard.

  * Lift the riser up to remove it from the system.

  * Remove the riser.

Remove from the riser the PCI or XAUI card of interest, place the riser card on the antistatic mat and place the card in antistatic bag.

If you are going to put in a replacement XAUI card or same or different type of PCI card in the PCI or PCI/XAUI Riser, do that now.

Insert the riser in the same Motherboard slot, reintall the PCI cross beam and attach the external cables to the PCI or XAUI card.

If not adding or replacing a XAUI or PCI card in the riser, then insert the riser in the same Motherboard slot and reintall the PCI

cross beam.

NOTE:

T5220 PCIe filler panels are located on the riser board assembly. Therfore you insert theT5220 type filler panel into the now newly emptied slot in the riser card BEFORE you insert the riser into the Motherboard.

T5120: PCIe filler panels are located in the removable PCI cross beam. Before reinserting the riser into the Motherboard slot, press a  a PCI/XAUI slot filler panel into the cross beam from inside the system.

Replace the system's top cover.

Plug in thge system's power cord(s).

If the system administrator would like the Host powered-up, that can be done using the front panel power button or via a login to the SP's  root  or  admin  accounts  and the appropriate   START or  poweron,  respectively, may be used.
