Description
Sun StorageTek[TM] 99x0 Systems (STK99x0) sends SNMP trap to Network Management System (NMS) when unsolicited events happen on STK99x0 subsystem. The information on what is being sent to NMS is available in the STK99x0 MIB file.

Steps to Follow
Sun StorageTek[TM] 99x0 Systems: SNMP MIB

STK99x0 SNMP installation is covered on both Web Console and Storage Navigator User guide.
<Document: 1003848.1> covers the subject on how to enable SNMP on STK99x0.
Knowledge gaps were raised on STK99x0 SNMP in particular on STK99x0 MIB file.
Solaris[TM] 10 Operating System has SNMP files/tools that can assist in troubleshooting SNMP issues.

- STK99x0 SNMP sending trap OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1

Given an OID, Solaris 10 Operating System can be used to find out where this SNMP trap comes from.

/etc/snmp/conf/enterprises.oid shows:
"Microsoft 1.3.6.1.4.1.311"
Breaking down the OID number shows Microsoft with given number of 311
.iso(1).org(3).dod(6).internet(1).private(4).enterprises(1).microsoft(311)

OID breakdown as follows:
microsoft 1.3.6.1.4.1.311
software 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1
systems 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1
os 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3
winnt 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1
performance 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1

If this trap OID comes from STK99x0 SVP then SNMP trap OID should have Hitachi company number 1.3.6.1.4.1.116.

In this case, Microsoft SNMP agent could have been used instead of Hitachi SNMP agent when binding the network properties on the SVP.

Reselect the SNMP agent and use Hitachi SNMP agent on SVP.

- STK99x0 OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.116.5.11.4.1.1.50.xx not in STK99x0 MIB file

Standard STK99x0 MIB file does not give sufficient detail to decode the above OID. Unless it is advertised in SNMP MIB file then this information would only be useful on Hitachi Hi-Command management software.

Note: More HDS MIB information is available externally, see http://www.oidview.com/mibs/116/HDS9900MIB.html which gives further detail breakdown on OID field.
