Goal

This document describes the steps to configure the Storage[TM] 6000 array hardware for Remote Replication. The example describes how to set up replication between 2 arrays.

For more information on Remote Replication, see the Sun StorageTek Array Administration Guide

Solution

Requirements
  • Remote Replication is a Premium feature and requires a License Key on both arrays.

Steps:

1. Register both arrays to a single management host

2. Connect the Fibre Channel Remote Replication Links.

Once Remote Replication is activated on each array, the array dedicates highest numbered host port on each controller for use with the Replication Feature.  Non-Replication IO will be rejected on these ports after activation.  Be sure that the ports are not in use before continuing.

Each replication port MUST be plugged into a Fibre Channel switch.

3. Make sure the FC Switch(s) has been correctly zoned to allow the arrays to communicate over the SAN.

The A Controller ports must see each other, and the B controller ports must see each other.  A common issue is to have the A controller see a remote B controller, and have the creation of replication sets fail, due to communication.

4. Activate Data Replication on both arrays using the CAM application or SANtricity.

Activation will enable the Remote Replication feature and create
two repository volumes of 256 megabytes. These volumes are used
for logging function of the Replication process.

5. Use CAM or SANtricity to create Replication Sets

See Sun StorageTek Array Administration Guide

Internal Comments
This process will also work on a SE6130 or FLX380 if the License Feature is installed.
