Solution  1010457.1 :   Sun Fire[TM] and Netra[TM]: How to bypass and reset the ALOM password

Description
A Sun Fire[TM] or Netra[TM] may ship with the Sun[TM] Advanced Lights Out Management (ALOM) password already set. Without knowing that password, it is impossible to access ALOM features. This article explains how to bypass and reset the ALOM password for the following systems:

* Sun Fire[TM] V210, 240, 250, 440
* Netra[TM] 240, 440




Steps to Follow
To override the system's ALOM password, do the following:

1. Attach the console to the serial management port

Refer to <Document: 1010563.1> 

2. Bypass the ALOM login prompt and bring up the "ok>" prompt

 a.  Power 'ON' the server. 

     Refer to your server documentation for information explaining how. 

 b.  Wait for the system to drop to the "ok>" prompt 

     Once Power On Self Test (POST) has completed following boot-up, wait 1 to
2 minutes for a timeout to occur, which will drop the system to the "ok>"
prompt. Below is an example of what you might see on the system console:

     Please login: 

     SC Alert: Host System has Reset

     ok>

3. Boot the system to the operating system level.

  ok> boot

Note: If the Solaris[TM] Operating System is not currently installed on the server, you will need to install it at this point.

4. Use scadm utility to reset the admin password

  # /usr/bin/cd /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin
# ./scadm userpassword admin

5. Return to the ALOM login prompt

Note: The escape sequence to return to the ALOM login prompt is "#." (pound+period)

6. Finally, test ALOM password access

  Now, login into the "admin" account using the new password set in step 4.
