Description
This article explains how to change the IP address for the SSPs (System
Service Processors) and the domains in Sun Enterprise[TM] 10000, SSP
3.4.

Note: This procedure will not change the hostname, only the IP
address. To make changes to the domain name, see InfoDoc 20902.

Steps to Follow
To change the IP address for the SSPs and the domains, follow these
steps:
1. On the SSPs, make sure that the file
/var/opt/SUNWssp/.ssp_private/ssp_to_domain_hosts has the
hostnames and not the IP addresses specified for the domains.
2. On the SSPs, edit the /etc/hosts file to reflect the new IP addresses
for the main-ssp, spare-ssp, floating-ssp, and domains.
3. On the domains, edit the /etc/hosts file to reflect the new IP
addresses.
Note: Make sure that the /etc/ssphostname file contains the floating
SSP hostname and not an IP address.
4. On the SSPs, run ssp_config float to configure the new IP address for
the floating IP.
5. On all of the domains and SSPs, confirm that the /etc/netmasks files
reflect the subnet that the new IP addresses are configured on.
Note: If a subnet is not listed in this file, the default netmask value
is 255.255.255.0.
6. On all of the domains and SSPs, confirm that the /etc/hostname.* files
have the correct new IP addresses entered.
Note: If these files have only the hostnames for the individual NICs
(Network Interface Cards), disregard this step.
7. Reboot the SSPs.
Note: If you are unable to reboot the SSPs, you will need to manually
replumb the interfaces and restart the SSP software.
8. Reboot the domains.

Comment: I shortened the title, tightened the text, made the steps more consistent, fixed the keywords, changed the expiration date, and removed the note about changing hostnames, which everyone agrees is not germane to this article.

Comment: Added steps 5 and 6 to the document and some internal information per a discussion with Laura Vernier, regarding improvements which could be made to this document.

Document author Sadra Davis could not be reached to make changes to it herself, but has been updated of these changes. In my past correspondence with her, she has expressed the desire for me to make such changes myself.

Comment: Minor grammatical and spelling tweaks. Also added SSP 3.4 to title because there is already an article out there for earlier versions of SSPs.

Comment: Sent Sandra an email with my thoughts to improve the document. These include a different title and a Description field detailing what the document hopes to accomplish. She knows what it is to be used for, but those who will use it later, might not know.

Sending back to draft for some quick improvements.
