Description
The Sun Fire [TM] T2000 server is shipped with a pre-loaded Solaris[TM] 10 Operating System that already has all the required patches and /etc/system entries pre-installed.

Without these mandatory patches and entries applied, the T2000 server may generate "false" errors or experience other known (undesirable) symptoms or issues.

Note: If the Solaris OS is re-loaded, then manual re-installation of the patches and /etc/system file modifications will be required for proper T2000 functionality.

Steps to Follow
To Confirm that the Sun Fire [TM] T2000 has the minimum required Solaris patches and /etc/system entries applied:

Exactly which patches and/or etc/system changes are required is determined by two factors:

1.) The specific T2000 model number (Part Number)

2.) The Solaris 10 OS version

To determine the T2000 model number:

Log into the T2000 System Controller and issue the showfru -s mb command to obtain the T2000 Part Number.

To do so:

1. Access to the T2000 system controller

2. At the Sun Fire T2000 console, type #. (Pound Period) to access the sc> prompt

3. Issue the showfru command as follows: sc> showfru -s mb

4. Note the /ManR/Sun Part No entry

(For more information regarding accessing the T2000 System Controller environment, reference <Document: 1009721.1> : Establishing a connection to Sun Fire [TM] T1000 or T2000 System Controller

http://www.sun.com/sunsolve

Example:

sc> showfru -s mb
SEGMENT: SD
/ManR
/ManR/UNIX_Timestamp32: TUE APR 24 18:57:57 2006
/ManR/Description: ASSY,Sun-Fire-T2000,CPU Board
/ManR/Manufacture Location: Sriracha,Chonburi,Thailand

/ManR/Sun Part No: 501XXXX
 (likely 5016843 or 5017501)

To determine the Solaris 10 Operating System version:

Issue the Solaris cat/etc/release command.

Example:

# cat /etc/release
              Solaris 10 3/05 HW2 s10s_hw2wos_05 SPARC
Copyright 2005 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
                           Assembled 26 September 2005

Once these two factors are determined, please reference the most current version of Sun Fire T2000 Server Product Notes to determine exactly which patches and settings are required for that circumstance. (See the section titled Notes For Servers With Part Number 501-XXXX)

To Check and Create the Mandatory /etc/system File Entries

Check that the entries are present before deploying the server.

Create the entries after the Solaris OS is installed or updated.

To do so:

1. Log in as superuser (root).

2. Check the /etc/system file to see if the mandatory lines are in the file.

# more /etc/system

3. If the entries are not there, they must be added and the server must then be rebooted. Use an editor to edit the /etc/system file and add the required entry.

To determine whether the required patches are already installed.

Using the showrev command, type the following:  # showrev -p | grep "Patch: xxxxxx"  (where xxxxxx is the six digit patch number)

If you see patch information listed for the queried patch, and the dash extension (the last two digits) matches or exceeds the required version, your system already has the required patches installed.

If you do not see patch information listed for the queried patch, or if the dash extension precedes the required version, you must download and then install the needed patch. Patches may be downloaded from the Sunsolve Patch Page.

Specify the base Patch ID number (the first six digits) to access the most current release of a patch and be sure to follow the installation instructions provided with the patch.

Nita:
Could you please clean up the Internal section of this doc ?
All looks fine in StarOffice, but there seem to be duplicate url entries in the published SunSolve version.
Also, Sunsolve seems to show '5016843' & '5017501' as hyperlinks, but they are not.
Thanks !
