Description
This document describes how to wire the RJ45<->RJ45 serial cable that is needed to set up a console and/or LOM access between Sun servers that provide RJ45-style serial ports.

Steps to Follow
Many of the newer Sun servers are equipped with a RJ45 serial connector for console and/or LOM functionality. In order to establish a serial connection between two such hosts, an atypical cable(known as a rollover cable) is required.
A suitable RJ45<->RJ45 rollover cable (Xylogics MicroAnnex Cable) is available for purchase, or as a FRU, under Sun part number 530-3139 from Sun Systems Handbook.

To verify the pinouts of the machines in question, consult the Sun System Handbook Communication troubleshooting page

Pinout for the rollover cable:

color signal pin pin signal
White/Orange RTS 1 8 CTS
Orange DTR 2 7 DSR
White/Green TxD 3 6 RxD
White/Blue GND 5 5 GND
Green RxD 6 3 TxD
White/Brown DSR 7 2 DTR
Brown CTS 8 1 RTS

Now you can connect e.g. a Sun Fire[TM] V480 to a Netra[TM] V100.
