Description
This document outlines Hitachi Data Systems(HDS) Remote Console - Storage
Navigator configuration settings, to ensure optimum performance.

Steps to Follow
Using rdesktop to connect a remote computer to the SVP, and run Storage
Navigator from it(the SVP), will give better response than using the remote
computer's browser to directly connect to Storage Navigator.

Note: There will always be a delay in response during initial connection, while
Java[TM] loads.

On both the SVP and remote computer, check the following configuration
settings:

  1. The remote computer must be in the same subnet as the SVP.
  2. If using Microsoft Internet Explorer, disable the proxy server:
    IE-->Tools-->Internet Options-->Connections-->LAN Settings
    Uncheck: Use a proxy server for your LAN
  3. Java plug-in.
    Storage Navigator was tested on Java runtime environment(JRE) 1.42-06 and -08.
    It should work well with these versions or higher.
 Check your Java configuration:
Note: JRE v1.50 has a a different Java plug-in Control panel.
The following example is for JRE1.42
  Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Java Plug-in
  Click on the "About" tab to check the version
  Click on Proxies
Uncheck:   Use Browser Settings

Internal Comments
For the internal use of Sun Employee's.

Storage Navigator access on SVP is protected by user/password, and is for Sun[TM]

internal use only.

This performance issue has been seen during data migration.
