Description
To support Solaris[TM] Volume Manager metadevice state databases on a Sun Fire[TM] V440 internal hardware RAID device, as configured using raidctl, requires a kernel driver patch.

Steps to Follow
It is well documented that, on a a Sun Fire[TM] 440 server, metadevices should not be created by the Solaris[TM] Volume Manager software on a disk mirrored using the onboard RAID device via raidctl.

Due to bug 5023670 it was also not possible to maintain metadevice state databases (metadb) on a disk mirrored using the Sun Fire[TM] 440 onboard RAID device either. Although it was possible to create the metadbs, they would become invalid when the server was rebooted.

The fix for bug 5023670 is now available, in the following revisions of the "sd" driver patch :

Solaris[TM] 9 : 113277-35 or higher
Solaris[TM] 10 : 119374-02 or higher

After installing the above patches, the metadbs will no longer become invalid after a system reboot.

This has been checked on v440 under HW mirrored disk on S10.
