Applies to:Sun Fire V100 ServerSun Fire V120 Server All Platforms GoalDescriptionThere is no command available in Solaris[TM] Operating System to determine the size of a memory DIMM in the Sun Fire[TM] V100/V120. This document provides you with information showing how to determine DIMM sizes in Sun Fire V100/V120 by reading the prtconf -pv output. SolutionSteps to Follow Sun Fire[TM] V100/V120: How to determine memory DIMM size? Run /usr/sbin/prtconf -pv | more and look for the section called 'memory'. You will find it listed just after OBP device aliases. For example: System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4u Node 0xf004fb38 Look at the line that starts with 'reg:': reg: 00000000.00000000.00000000.20000000.00000000.40000000.00000000.20000000 In 64 bit machines you see groups of 4 numbers reported. In the above example there are 8 numbers. This means this system have 2 DIMMs installed (8/4=2 groups). Now look at the 4th number in each group of numbers. Every 4th number of my output is 20000000. This means each DIMM size is 512MB. So I have 2 x 512 MB DIMMs in my Sun Fire V100/V120 box. The conversion table is as follows:
