Goal

Description
This document addresses the gathering of 1280extended information for a Sun Fire[TM] V1280, E2900 and Netra[TM] 1280 and 1290 servers.

Solution

Steps to Follow
Running 1280extended Explorer.

In order to collect command output information (error log files, command output, etc) from the v1280, E2900, n1280, or n1290 System Controller, you must utilize a special module to Explorer called 1280extended.

Beginning with Explorer v5.0, 1280extended collects v1280/E2900/n1280/n1290 SC data. It requires the ability to connect to the SC over the network from the host in which the explorer is being executed. Functionally, it is similar to the scextended option run on 3800-E6900 systems but scextended will not collect v1280/E2900/n1280/n1290 SC data (nor will 1280extended collect 3800-E6900 SC data).

NOTES:

  • The scextended option in Sun[TM] Explorer software does NOT work for Sun Fire[TM] V1280/E2900 and Netra[TM] 1280/1290 servers.
  • The mechanism used to access the system controller is different from the servers that use the scextended module.
  • The information collected by 1280extended is somewhat different than scextended due to the architectural differences between the platforms.

To learn how to log in to the SC, please refer to Chapter 3 of the "Sun Fire Entry-Level Midrange System Administration Guide".

Command syntax assuming default install directory (NOTE: Run this from the admin workstation on the same network as the SC or run it from the domain if network access exists and the domain is up):

    # /opt/SUNWexplo/bin/explorer -w default,1280extended

Note: The network port of the SC must be configured in order to use the 1280extended module in Sun Explorer. See Chapter 2 of the Sun Fire Entry-Level Midrange System Administration Guide if needing to configure this.

If there is already an active connection to the SC network port then the 1280extended script will fail. 1280extended requires access to the SC via the network port and there can only be 1 connection so if the port is already in use the script will abort.

Explorer Information:

  • See < Document 1002383.1 > for details on Explorer Data Collector.
  • Commands collected are available from the User Guide (link in the Explorer Data Collector document).
