The library may be connected to the customer's local LAN but access can
also be achieved by attaching a crossover cable between a laptop and the
libraries RJ45 ethernet port.
If the tape library does not have the network interface or RJ45 port configured,
following the procedure in Technical Instruction < Document: 1010650.1>
'Configuring Ethernet port for Firmware Upgrade or Remote Management' to setup the
interface.
NOTE: The procedure outlined below can be used to downgrade library
firmware as well as upgrade if there is a suspicion that someone
has jumped to the latest revision instead of doing things 'by the
book'.
NOTE: Before proceeding note the following:
Library and drive's SCSI target addresses
(Op panel: Main, 1. library info 3. View config, more, 1. SCSI IDs).
NOTE: Also note barcode character length.
Valid values are 6, 7,or 8.
(Main , 3. Admin 3. Change config, more, 3 Other config options,
more, 1. Barcode character length).
If the customer is using Netbackup you need to check that the value is
set to the same afterwards. Bug ID 4934287 - 1.55 firmware and Netbackup
PATCHES
Library patch. (Can only be loaded via the network port).
111972-05 (or later) contains the robotics firmware for the Sun
StorEdge L20/L40/L60 tape libraries.
Drive patches. (Loaded over SCSI using tload).
The drives are separate devices so firmware upgrades can be done
independently of library upgrades.
116328-01 (or later) DLT7000 firmware for L20/40/60
112068-02 (or later) DLT8000 firmware for L20/40/60
113359-01 (or later) LTO-1 firmware for L20/40/60

The procedure is as follows:
# ftp 
	The user name you must log in as is 'download' (not root or
	other username) use the administration password to authenticate
	(which the customer needs to know and have set). The service
	password (if known) will not work.
Put the ftp session into binary mode by typing 'bin' at the ftp
prompt.

Use the following syntax as it appears below, the 'ftp>' bit
denotes the ftp prompt e.g:
ftp> put L20_SUN-1_71S-dnld_all /firmware/chunker
You need to include the '/firmware/chunker' bit, don't try to be
smart and cd into this directory, the download is likely to fail.
Then wait for the download to complete - the library should power
cycle to complete the job.
You can snoop between your machine and the library to monitor the
download process. Just watch for the ftp traffic to stop - you
normally see a 'transfer complete' message in the output of the
snoop or something similar. Once it's completed, just type 'bye' at
the ftp prompt to exit the ftp shell.

NOTE 1: If your customer is on a low firmware like, 1.05S, you need to
upgrade the firmware in stages, from 1.05S -> 1.25S -> 1.33S ->
1.55S -> 1.71S, you can't jump to the latest revision.
NOTE 2: You can do all of this via a web browser - but in my experience,
	this ftp procedure is more robust - different flavours of
	browsers can cause problems, however, the browser must support
Java 1.3x. If you do use the browser method, once started leave
it alone till it is finished. Don't resize the browser window for
example. Progress can be viewed on the op panel.
CAUTION: If you do upgrade to 1.55S it is possible the default barcode length
setting has changed so you need to check that.
	 Use the 'Change Configuration' menu to change the default barcode
	 length back to whatever the customer was using beforehand.
(most commonly it is the default 6 characters).
This barcode stuff needs to be done before you try to do any
inventory from your backup software.
	 Once the library has come back from it's power cycle and you've
checked the barcode length setting - you should now be ready
to inventory from your software (if used) and continue working
as normal.
Lastly check that the correct firmware components have been installed.
Run a library report and check for the following revisions.
