Description
This document describes Sun Fire[TM] 12K/15K/E20K/E25K: Changing Host Names on the System Controllers.

Steps to Follow
Note: Ensure you have a valid / working serial console connection before starting this procedure.

Follow these steps to change the system controllers' host names.

Step 1. Set failover off on the main SC.

v4u-15ka-sc0-gmp02:sms-svc:1> showfailover

SC Failover Status:     ACTIVE

C1: Up

v4u-15ka-sc0-gmp02:sms-svc:2> setfailover off

v4u-15ka-sc0-gmp02:sms-svc:3> showfailover

SC Failover Status:     DISABLED

Step 2. IMPORTANT : Back up the following files in a secure location because sys-unconfig will remove them:

 /etc/defaultrouter
/etc/defaultdomain
/etc/hostname.INTERFACE(HME,QFE,etc)
/etc/inet/hosts
/etc/inet/netmasks
/etc/net/*/hosts
/etc/nodename
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/.rootkey
/etc/shadow
/etc/vfstab
/var/nis/NIS_COLD_START

NOTE: If you are using LDAP you should back up these files also:

 /var/ldap/ldap_client_cache
/var/ldap/ldap_client_file
/var/ldap/ldap_client_cred
/var/ldap/cachemgr.log

Step 3. Run /usr/sbin/sys-unconfig. Fill in the new information during reboot.

Step 4. Using the serial connection of the SC you are re-naming, run smsconfig -m to put new hostname into sms config.

Step 5. Reboot the SC and restore ONLY the necessary  information previously backed-up

Step 6. Proceed in the same way on the Spare SC.

Step 7. Re-enable the failover

v4u-15ka-sc0-gmp02:sms-svc:3> showfailover

SC Failover Status:     DISABLED

v4u-15ka-sc0-gmp02:sms-svc:2> setfailover on

v4u-15ka-sc0-gmp02:sms-svc:1> showfailover

SC Failover Status:     ACTIVE

C1: Up
