Solution

Steps to Follow
How to manually remove DLT tape cartidges from the DLT4700 tape drive
=====================================================================
These steps will be necessary if you want to get any tapes out of the
DLT4700 unit when there is a dead power supply or a faulty eject button
that does not allow the normal eject procedure to work.
1. Position DLT4700 on a flat stable workspace that allows you to access
the unit comfortably from the sides.
2. Move front key to "unlocked" position
3. Remove the 4 Phillips head screws that secure the outside cover to the
tape drive unit. There are two on the top rear and two on the lower
front sides
4. After removing the screws, lift the external skins off the drive
5. The internal case will be exposed, look on the top rear of the unit
for a small square hole that has a metal bracket with a roller
attached sticking slightly out of it.
6. Push this bracket in to clear it from the enclosure and push on the
rear of the drive assembly (where the fan unit is located).
7. Continue to push the assembly out of the enclosure until the front is
approx. 8-10 inches out.

8. Look behind and slightly below the end of the bar which is exposed
on the right side for an opening that is cut in the assembly
(see above figure). In the opening, there is a release lever,
push it 2-3mm towards the rear
9. Release the front door
10. You can now remove the tapes
If for some reason there is need to access the tape drive itself, push the
assembly out slightly more until on the right hand side we see the catch
release for the auto loading part of the unit. When this is exposed pull
the release up and swing the front of the unit to the left to expose the
tape drive.

Note this is for internal use only

To remove the internal DLT Tape Drive Assembly you must follow these steps.

1. Slide out the Tape Drive Door hinge bracket (small black plastic piece next to the Auto loader hinge).
2. Unplug the rear power connection and data connection to the rear of the DLT Tape Drive.
3. Remove the four Phillips screws that are spring loaded on each side of the unit. They can be found inside the two big nuts on each side of the Tape Drive.
4. Remove the Tape Drive from the enclosure making sure that the gray address cable is disconnected.
5. At this point you can now remove any jammed tapes from the DLT by flipping the DLT over and using a slotted screw driver on the take up spool on the bottom of the unit. Turn the screw until the tape leader inside the DLT ejects the cartridge.
