Goal

Description
The Oracle/StorageTek[TM] C4 Tape Library includes a command-line utility to gather the Failure Analysis File.

This document describes how to use that utility.

Solution

Steps to Follow
Connection to the C4 library can be achieved via a service PC into the serial port on the C4, or via C4 web management utility.

Obtaining the fa log via the serial port

To connect a service PC to the C4 library:

  1. Using the 9-pin RS-232 to 3mm cable provided with the library, connect the 9-pin connector a COM port on a local PC and to the serial port on the library system controller board (SCB).
  2. Open a HyperTerminal window on the service PC and set the following properties:
    ?Baud rate = 38400
    ?Data bits = 8
    ?Parity = none
    ?Stop bits = 1
    ?Flow control = none
    ?Emulation = ANSI
  3. Type to access the command prompt.
  4. From the Transfer menu at the top of Hyper Terminal, select the Capture Text...
  5. Enter a file name and click Start.
  6. At the command prompt, type fa and press .

After the command has executed, select Stop from the Capture Text menu. Have this text file available when contacting Sun service support.

Obtaining the fa log via the web management utility

  1. On the host computer, open the internet browser software.
  2. In the Address field, type http://IPaddress/service.html where IP address is the IP address for the C4 tape library.
  3. This will bring you to a service page where we will need to enable telnet.
  4. The user and password are service and ATLfse.
  5. Once telnet is enabled, open hyperterminal and connect to the ip of the library.
  6. You will see a prompt PX500>
  7. Log in using service and ATLfse
  8. Now enable a capture text in Hyperterminal.
  9. Type fa and the failure analysis file will come down.

After the command has executed, select Stop from the Capture Text menu. Have this text file available when contacting Sun service support.
