The latch assembly in the top of the CAP has a shoulder bolt which can come loose and prevent the Cap assembly from locking properly.

Solution

The procedure below addresses an intermittent CAP locking problem. The latch assembly in the top of the CAP has a shoulder bolt which can come loose and prevent the CAP assembly from locking properly. If the CAP does not lock the library controller will not attempt any gets or puts to the CAP.  All problems to date have been reported as an intermittent CAP problem.  The symptoms are the CAP appears to be in the locked position but the CAP "Unlocked" LED stays illuminated and the CAP does not lock.

Procedure:

* Remove the CAP assembly from the door.
* Mark the current position of the CAP top to the rotating cylinder. Suggest you place a piece of tape between the joining sections and cut the tape where the two sections join. This will give you a reference point to realign the cylinder to the CAP top.
* Remove the CAP motor.
* Remove the spring clip that holds the top cover of the CAP assembly in place and slide the top off of the associated shaft.
* Check the shoulder bolt screw, it should be tight and allow minimal off-axis movement of the latch assembly. But still allow the latch to swing smoothly on the shoulder of the bolt. If you can turn the shoulder bolt by hand it is probably too loose. If found loose remove and add a small amount of loctite to the threads of the shoulder bolt and tighten.

Note: DO NOT loctite the shoulder of the bolt and inhibit the movement of the locking lever. The loctite will assist in preventing the bolt from coming loose in the future.

* Also check the spring associated with the locking lever, it should provide tension on the locking lever to keep it in the closed position.
